Increase in cyberattacks due to COVID-19

Brute Force Attacks

Increase in COVID-19 cyber attacks.

Due to the confinement of the population due to the COVID-19 pandemic there has been an increase in cyber attacks, adding up to this

to Phishing.

The already well-known Email phishingis where the attacker impersonates a client or supplier to try to introduce aTrojan in the system. This time they have used highly sought-after health items, such as face masks, hand sanitizer, and coronavirus tests, to try to deceive the user.

In light of this particular attack,it is recommended to check the sender before opening any email attachments.

Brute Force Attacks.

An increase in bot activity has also been detected (programs used by hackers) to discover passwords through patterns or using the method of brute force. Brute force attack is the method to find out a password by trying all combinations. possible until you find the right one.

This, combined with the remote access being used due to less secure teleworking systems, increases the chances that an attacker can remotely access a system.

It is recommended to have a policy of changing passwords regularly.

If you already have our IT maintenance services, you can request an appointment to review these policies and put them into operation, if this hasn't already been done.

Phishing

Malicious Antivirus.

In addition to these attacks, malicious antivirus programs are also on the rise. These are supposed antivirus programs that will protect the electronic devices of those using them remotely from the attacks occurring these days.

What actually happens is that by downloading this malicious software, the device becomes a bot, falling under the hidden control of a second system operated by the attacker, who can then access it.
