Brute force attacks

Increase in cyber attacks related to COVID-19.

Due to the confinement of the population due to the COVID-19 pandemic there has been an increase in cyber attacks

for phishing.

The well-knownEmail phishingis where the attacker impersonates a customer or supplier to try to introduce aTrojan in the system. This time they have used highly sought-after health items, such as face masks, hand sanitizer, and coronavirus tests, to try to deceive the user.

In light of this particular attack,it is recommended to verify the sender before opening any email attachments.

Brute force attacks.

An increase in bot activity has also been detected (programs used by hackers) to discover passwords through patterns or using the method of brute forceA brute-force attack is the method of discovering a password by trying all possible combinations until the correct one is found.

This, combined with the remote access used due to the lower security of teleworking systems, increases the chances that an attacker can access a system remotely.

It is recommended to have a policy of regular password changes.

If you already have our IT maintenance services, you can request an appointment to review these policies and put them into operation, if this has not already been done.

Identity theft

Malicious antivirus.

In addition to these attacks, malicious antivirus programs are also proliferating. These programs are supposed to protect the electronic devices of those who use them remotely from the attacks that are currently occurring.

What actually happens is that by downloading this malicious software, the device becomes a bot, falling under the hidden control of a second system operated by the attacker, who can then access it.
